The Great Stock Market Crash

I'm sure we heard the news about the Stock Market going haywire in less than 3 days. So what does this mean? Is the economy that bad that banks are losing money? Or is this just another plan of the crooked government? No one seems to have an answer, all they know is that banks are is in trouble and you may see more and more closing or selling.

...But You Say He's Just A Friend

I don't really copy and post but I found it ironic that I was going to talk about a subject (Can Men & Women Really Just Be Friends) and I ran across it this afternoon. So I took it was a sign...read and learn.

Oprah & Friends XM Radio host Rabbi Shmuley Boteach talks about the ground rules for platonic relationships between men and women.

Can men and women be "just friends," or is sexual attraction between the sexes always inevitable? According to Rabbi Shmuley, men and women can be friends with members of the opposite sex, as long as they follow certain rules. He talks about platonic friendship between the sexes and shares his ground rules for opposite-sex friendships outside of marriage.

If a person isn't married, Rabbi Shmuley says it's perfectly all right to have friends who are members of the opposite sex. Society has moved away from polarizing the sexes, and today, men and women work together, go to school together and should be able to be friends, he says.

Things are different if you are married, Rabbi Shmuley says. It is possible to have an opposite sex friendship, but you cannot compromise certain borders:

You can't go out to late night dinners together. You can have lunch together in a public place, but you should not order alcoholic beverages. "The embers of attraction really can grow in situations like that, and suddenly it's not so innocent, it's not just friendship anymore," Rabbi Shmuley says.

You can't take long drives or long flights with the other person, even if it's for work. "Even if you have to work with a colleague [of the opposite sex], there are still certain boundaries you need to preserve," he says.

You cannot place yourself in any situation where romance can grow. "Romance grows when people are alone; romance grows when people tell secrets," Rabbi Shmuley says.

You can't share secrets with a platonic male or female friend that you don't share with your spouse. "Because then you're sharing an exclusivity with a member of the opposite sex that you're not with your partner, and that can lead to a big no-no," he says.

You should not be friends with ex-lovers.

So their you go.

Remembering 9/11: We Will Never Forget

Today is a day that will always be remembered, individually and in history. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I was in class and all of a sudden you get the news that the Twin Tower gets hit by a plane. I then began to think, by a plane? how the hell could that happen? It must be a mistake, and then you turn on the TV and see the smoke coming out of Tower 1. You watch and you watch and then all of a sudden BANG!! the second tower gets hit by another plane. It was so surreal.

I wasn't in New York at the time but I got calls from nearly all of my family. Some of my cousins in Brooklyn said that the debris from the Towers reach all the way out their. My aunts in Queens knew people who worked in the buildings and so did my mom. Watching as people jumped from over 20 stories to a quick death and watching as the first tower fell and then the second make me fell like America isn't all that great after all.

I'm not even going to get into the Bush scandal that surrounds this story cause its bigger than that. Over 100,000 people lost their lives today over nothing and they deserve to be remembered. So to everyone who lost a family member, a friend, an associate of just a memory of what the old New York used to be like. Today is for you...matter of fact..today is for us. You Will Never Be Forgotten.

How To Tell If Your Significant Other Is Cheating

Protective of cell phones or other gadgets. You walk in the room and they close out of whatever they were looking at on the computer. Or their cell phone, e-mail, and myspace password changes out of the blue. They may even act defensive when you innocently touch their phone or computer. Now that doesn't mean you should break up with them because they wont let you check their text messages but that should raise a red flag in your mind.

They start to up the grooming. We all know that women talk forever to get dress and some guy are the same, depending on the person, but when they want every aspect of them to look perfect for a "girls/guys night out" then you may have a problem. I know people want to look their best when going out so don't let that be your only indication, but when they start doing unnecessary shaving or start going to the gym and smell differently, you then may wanna take special precautions.

Nothing bothers them anymore. You may push your boyfriend/girlfriend's buttons on purpose sometimes but when you do it and they just say whatever, leave the house, laugh, etc. then thats because their thinking about leaving anyway and they don't feel the need to address or get stressed out about the issue. Why get mad when the waiter gives you the wrong appetizer and you still have a main course to come?

They think your cheating. This really depends on the type of person you're with. If there laid back and now their always questioning where your heading or what your doing it could be because they feel guilty about something. It could also mean that they may be in the same spots that you're in and don't want word to get around, or worst, get caught red handed.

The Story Behind The Statue Of Liberty

We've all seen her before, either you visited New York City or you seen her picture in one of many places. Liberty Enlightening the World is her name and it was gift from France that is still appreciated today.

The Statue of Liberty stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor were it welcomes visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans. The copper-clad lady was dedicated to the US on October 28, 1886 President Grover Cleveland in front of thousands of spectators. The statue commemorates the centennial of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence and is a gesture of friendship from France to the United States.

The first model, on a small scale, was built in 1870. This first statue is now in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. A second model, also on a small scale, was further brought to Maceió, a city in the Northeast of Brazil. This model is in front of Maceió's first city hall, built in 1869, which is now a museum.

The statue arrived in New York Harbor on June 17, 1885 on board the French frigate Isère. The Statue had to be reduced to 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 crates which was stored for eleven months waiting for its pedestal to be finished, was then re-assembled in four months.

Lady Liberty holds the torch of freedom in her right arm and a stone tablet in her left. The tablet contains the date July 4, 1776, which acknowledges and commemorates the American Declaration of Independence. The torch represents a burning passion for freedom and contains a flame that is coated in gold leaf. The broken shackles at the base of Lady Liberty's feet represent freedom from oppression.

The Statue of Liberty also functioned as a lighthouse from 1886 to 1902. At that time the U.S. Lighthouse board was responsible for its operation and the electric light could of been seen for over 24 miles (39 km) at sea.

In 1984, the Statue of Liberty was added to the list of World Heritage Sites and in 2007, the Statue of Liberty was one of 20 finalists in a competition to name the New Seven Wonders of the World.

It Not Me...Its YOU!

While some of us have a hard time getting into a relationship other just have a hard time keeping one. Hence the title "It not me its YOU!" So what are you doing wrong that all your relationship goes sour? No one answer is correct, but there may be somethings that you do or don't do that pushes it to the brink of destruction.

Trust. In any relationship trust is a must, if you can't trust a person you'll find yourself going through his/her cellphone and laptop trying to find any hint of cheating or infidelity. I know I've been a victim of the sneaky girlfriend that asks a million and one question about where your going and where you been but it all boils down to trust. Ask any couple who's been together long enough, trust is a major factor.

Commitment. You know you've seen the couple who's been together for 4-8 years and they still aren't married, why is that? Its either because one of them doesn't want to give up the single life or both of them don't think their right or ready for each other. You have some people that will stay in a relationship just so they wont be single and you have other who will stay in a relationship just for the advantages. Advantages of sex, a steady date, some companionship or whatever the case may be.

Communication. This is why most of my relationship ended. There's a problem with a situation or someone's doing something wrong and no one says anything hoping it will just go away. Your girlfriend is to flirty or your boyfriend hangs out with his friends to much. Now some people will address the problem but plenty times you have the passive person who will hope it will stop as time goes on. Another part or communication is saying what you want from the person or the relationship. Other times you have someone who wants you read their mind and know their every need. While I must say you do get to know someone with time, knowing everything about a person is not the others job in a relationship.

These are just some of the core reasons for a relationship failing but I'm pretty sure you broke a few hearts some other ways.

History: The Origin Of The Internet

Seeing that this is the History & Relationship blog (H & R) and all, what would it be without learning something valuable? So today I'll briefly go over the history of the internet, since you are on it most of the time it would be good to know the who, when and whys.

Now the internet was the result of some visionary thinkers of the early 1960s who saw great potential value in allowing computers to share information on research and development in scientific and military fields. I'll talk about three key people but there were plenty others who helped bring this internet dream to life.

J.C.R. Licklider of MIT, first proposed a global network of computers in 1962, and moved over to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in late 1962 to head the work to develop it. Leonard Kleinrock of MIT and later UCLA developed the theory of packet switching, which was to form the basis of Internet connections. Lawrence Roberts of MIT then connected a Massachusetts computer with a California computer in 1965 over dial-up telephone lines. It showed the feasibility of wide area networking, but also showed that the telephone line's circuit switching was inadequate. Kleinrock's packet switching theory was confirmed. Roberts moved over to DARPA in 1966 and developed his plan for ARPANET.

Since the Internet was initially funded by the government, it was originally limited to research, education, and government uses. Commercial uses were prohibited unless they directly served the goals of research and education. This policy continued until the early 90's, when independent commercial networks began to grow.

When the internet was first invented there was nothing user friendly about it matter of fact the early Internet was used by computer experts, engineers, scientists, and librarians. There were no home or office personal computers in those days, and anyone who used it, whether a computer professional or an engineer or scientist or librarian, had to learn to use a very complex system.

Microsoft's full scale entry into the browser, server, and Internet Service Provider market completed the major shift over to a commercially based Internet. The release of Windows 98 in June 1998 with the Microsoft browser well integrated into the desktop shows Bill Gates' determination to capitalize on the enormous growth of the Internet.

Today we have all kinds of choices to choose from, you have your Apple Macs', your HP, your Dells', you name it and you'll have it and with the vast acceleration of technology the internet seem to grow more and more everyday.

She Loves Me She Loves Me Not

When you first see a girl you like or attached to a few things may run through your mind. You might ask yourself, before approaching that person, are they single? Do they think I'm good looking? Are they looking for a relationship or just someone to have relations with? While all these are good questions to ask you may want to make sure you have all your ducks in a order before building yourself up and shooting yourself down.

1. First things first, to catch a sheep ones must be in sheep’s clothing, while this may sound like the old saying "wolves in sheep’s clothing" no one wants someone who's not similar to them in some ways. You may say opposites attract, but live with someone who does everything opposite from you and see how long that last. So to say it in simpler words, what you put out is what you'll pull in.

2. Second. The eyes tell you everything. If someone likes you, you will be able to tell in a matter of minutes or even seconds. If a girl looks you straight in the eye and then looks you up and down, you’re in there like swim wear. Your only task will now be not to f**k it up, lol. However, if she plays the glancing game, looks at you for a while then goes back to what she's doing only to check up on you again, then you may have to do a little more work. Just remember, girls are like fish. You throw out the bait but you dont wanna pull it in to early cause they'll know whats going on. But you also dont wanna leave the bait in the water to long cause they'll just eat around the hook until all the food is gone. In other words have good timing.

3. Now after you put on your Sunday's best and cast your line into the water, the task is now to approach the person or the prey. When approach the prey it important to keep in mind the following: be strong but not forceful, confident but not to arrogant, gentle but not a push over. Girls like it when a guy knows what they want in life, so dont make it all be about her but you dont want to ignore what she has to say. So after you say "Hi my name is..." you want to keep the conversation going until you get what you want, whether it be her phone number, a date or that one night stand (which should not be your reason) but whatever. If you’re good at making girls laugh then make her laugh. If you’re smart then teach her something. If you’re talented then let her see your talents. The object is to show your personality without necessarily being yourself. You may also want to throw in some compliments here and there, but not to much cause then you'll look like you dont do this often.

4. So you got the number or the date and half the battle is won. She gave you the chance to prove yourself so dont let her down. Be a gentleman with a backbone, pull out the chair and open the door, and if there’s a problem (with the service or in general) then address it. Now I'm not saying go and pick a fight to show that you’re a macho man but just show that you’re a strong individual. When out on your date or on the phone, it’s important to learn as much about the person and find out most of the similarity as possible. No one wants to be on the phone or on a date with silent nothings in the air the whole time, so try to drag out each conversation, but not to much, because too much of anything is bad for you. Also try to have a list of topics in your head to choose from but let her bring up topics as well. As I mentioned in the first post I did, I'm kinda like Hitch so if you watched to movie then you'll know about the 90-10 rule at the end of the date, but that’s if it goes well.

5. If you made it here then you have nothing to worry about. She should either love you or hate you by now. You should be setting up the second date or running far away as possible. Not everyone you think is attractive or attracted to you is always perfect for you. If you’re not with the person you want to be with then you may have to go through test and trails to get to that special someone but if you follow these key rules then you should have no problem. Of course there situations that allow you twist the rules around a little bit but as long as you get the drift then you should be ok.
